Screwball Rally 2019 - Team1703

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

We’re Dan, Grant and Tom, three Essex Roads Policing officers who will be taking on the Screwball Rally challenge in September to raise money for the St Helena Hospice and the RNLI. The rules of the rally are that you have to travel almost 1,300 miles through France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg in a car that can’t be worth more than £750. Ours is a 2002 BMW 530d which is receiving much love before the rally!

Our two chosen charities are very close to our hearts. Last year, at the age of just 31, Tom discovered that he had skin cancer during a routine appointment with the dermatologist. Thankfully, his life was never in danger and the cancer was swiftly treated with minimal scarring. Tom's mum also works for a hospice in South Devon and understands just how important funding is to ensure they can provide the care and support they give to terminally ill patients and their loved ones daily. Grant lost a close work colleague to cancer just four months after he was diagnosed, while Dan’s grandfather and his wife’s grandfather both died of the Big C. With the frightening statistic that one in two of us will get cancer, we want to help stop this awful disease before it stops us or our loved ones.

Alongside the St Helena Hospice, we have chosen to support the RNLI because of the amazing work they do on our coastline every single day. Dan has been volunteering with the RNLI for 18 months and sees first-hand how important the service can be to keep us all safe. As a Devon boy growing up on the coast, Tom has always been aware of the importance of the RNLI and how vital they are in an emergency. In 2017, it cost £176.5m to run the service, so they rely on people like us to raise money for them.

As you can tell, we’re really passionate about supporting these two fantastic charities through the Screwball Rally. We know you get asked for money all the time, but we’d love it if you could donate even a few quid to our challenge.

All monies raised will go direct to the charities at a 50/50 split. The cost of the car, servicing, fuel and any other associated costs for the rally are being funded by the three of us.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers, Dan, Grant and Tom

P.S. A big thank you goes to FunkeeFish Vehicle Graphics, Dents & Scuffs, Police Mutual & Winning Smiles for supporting us on this journey.
