See Feel Create: NY to Japan
Donate to support the development of an international art workshop series bridging multicultural art practices in order to combat premature stress and perfectionism in NY youth.

THE PROJECT:

Invited to the quiet city of Fukuoka, Japan for a studio residency in winter 2016, Zoey will use all funds raised to research and design an art workshop series for cross-cultural youth around the concept of wabi sabi.

Wabi Sabi  is an aesthetic and philosophical element of Japanese Buddhism which highlights the beauty of nature's imperfections.

Through this residency, Hart will continue her series of site-based multimedia textile prints, incorporating local materials and techniques inherent to the tradition of wabi sabi into her practice.

During this time of artistic focus, cultural research and meditation, Zoey will continue to develop a wabi-sabi art workshop for communities adults and youth in NYC, which will address mindful creativity+meditative art making as vehicles to de-escalate obsessive perfectionism and premature stress .

WHAT IS SEE FEEL CREATE?

Introducing creative mindfulness practice through innovative visual art activities, See Feel Create explores methods of visual art-making as a means to heal, build, and understand our communities and ourselves.

See Feel Create began in 2012 as a research-oriented expressive art workshop with youth communities in Chiang Rai, Thailand. The program initially focused on the development of culturally sensitive visual art projects for at risk youth at THE SOLD PROJECT.  Through these sessions, See Feel Create sought to explore the potential value of teaching visual art as a tool for emotional expression cross-culturally.

Three years, a short book,  and one MA degree later, See Feel Create has evolved into a flourishing international project, serving hundreds of youth, teens and adults internatonally (more here ) . Through collaborations, mentorships, workshops, talks and imprmptu events, See Feel Create  continues to prove the power of creativity to not only break through barriers, but to transcendend them.

More About  ZOEY :

Zoey Hart is a Brooklyn-based artist working (and teaching) in multimedia collage and collaborative social practice. Since completing her interdisciplinary MA program at NYU Gallatin, Zoey has lived, traveled, and worked with students from a kaleidoscopic range of cultures and social backgrounds, teaching elements of visual expression to ignite social change. Back in Brooklyn, Zoey works with communities of young artists and thinkers to forge experiential art collaborations.

Hart's visual work explores the aesthetics of organic imperfection through printmaking, artifact collection and multimedia collage. Inspired by the unfolding adventures of her own chronic autoimmune ailments, Hart seeks to merge internal and external realities through the depiction and distortion of biological and environmental landscapes.
