About Me:
Hi, my name is LaNisha Danielle. I am a 27 year old mother, singer, nonprofit worker, fashion lover, and giver. Over the last 2-3 years I have had the opportunity to see and learn much about life. While I've always held a passion for charity and giving stemming from my work and volunteering for a variety of different nonprofits throughout Richmond, Va as well as co-operating a nonprofit organization for youth, I have also been honored to have studied at Penn State in the field of Organizational Leadership. While starting a nonprofit organization definitely helps further my goal to give, I was honored to have recently watched a series on TEDx discussing nonprofits vs for profits and the disproportionate amount of funds generated for nonprofits. The talk discussed using your business to generate funds while concurrently helping and empowering our world. A light bulb went off!
I am interested in providing jobs for future generations, as well as allowing my passion for fashion and specifically shoes to flourish.
The problem & solution/Talk Business:
Shoes. As a woman, shoes are very important for the overall appearance of an outfit. The wrong shoes can and has affected work, dating, meetings, etc. The market will feature fashion forward shoes both new & used. In addition the plan is yo teach our young girls how to build their own fashion brands. Building entrepreneurs ~
Pay it forward?
We will donate shoes yearly to lower income schools, churches, programs, etc. to ensure that our children always have shoes to wear. In addition, allow this to be the launching pad for a whirl wind of hopes and goals to better our world. (See background below)
Background:
As a mom, it's a no brainer that I would want to help our future generations. As well, I had the experience about a year ago of working for both The Boys & Girls Club of America and FeedMore nonprofit organizations. During my time with these organizations, I met some amazing boys & girls. I was also fortunate to work with older children from high school who continued to come back to the club and volunteer their time. I still mentor some of the children and have grown to truly love them. While volunteering is important and quite beneficial for both the organization and the volunteer, I wondered for those that were old enough to work, why they were not considering the low income in the neighborhoods. (Some of the children were receiving free food). My curiosity further piqued comparing my beginnings of working at national food chain at the age of 14, not because I was hungry. What I found was that in their neighborhoods, they lacked jobs that would hire them, or they lacked transportation further out of the community to work. One day while mentoring two young boys from the Boys & Girls Club, the young men asked me if they could walk up and down my street asking neighbors if they could cut grass and clean yards, they wanted to work. While this may seem like a mountain of goals, I plan to hire some of our youth one day. I plan to assist them in learning to become self sufficient, to become entrepreneurs. Excited to show them how much larger this world is than just the inner city. This will be one step at a time, but I am certain that in time my goal of helping improving our world will be reached.
