Michael's Eye Sight Fund

Donation protected
Michael Johnson is many things – a talented photographer, husband, father, friend, and an exceptionally generous human being who has spent months each year traveling to the Philippines and Africa, where he performs humanitarian work while teaching photography to children and young adults.
In his hometown of Baltimore, MD, he reaches out to inner-city youth, showing them a life other than the streets through sharing his gift of photography and love of life.

But now, he is the one who needs help.

On April 1, Michael lost his eyesight due to a rare eye disease called Keratoconus– a slow, but progressive, eye disease that affects the cornea by thinning, and scarring the layers of tissue. This disease can cause moderate to severe distortion, blurriness, nearsightedness, and blindness.

In the past, Keratoconus has affected one in every 2,000 Americans. Now it’s one in 500.

Right now, Michael’s Kerantoconus condition has progressed, and the only option is a cornea transplant.
Michael, who is only 44 years old, his wife Barbara 42 and daughter Sara 16 have been physically, emotionally, mentally and financially impacted by Michael’s illness and truly need our help…

We can help save his eyesight!

He is currently on a donor list awaiting a cornea transplant. However, his insurance won’t cover all of the costs associated with this procedure, which includes a hospital stay, medical and doctor bills, not to mention everyday living expenses.

Making things even more financially stressful, Michael has not been able to work since he lost part of his vision, and now both he and Barbara are dependent on her income from a part-time job at a nearby grocery store.

Despite all of this, Michael still encourages others to, “live a rich, full life with zero regrets. Don’t take anything for granted and have a positive approach on life.”

This loving, giving, gifted man and personal friend truly needs our help and support.

I am asking his friends, anyone who knows Michael or who has worked or volunteered with him, and fellow supporters to donate what they can to help him now in his time of need.

And, please help spread the word of this fundraising campaign so that we can reach as many people as possible and get as many individuals as we can to contribute.

It’s not known if Michael will ever regain 100 percent of his eyesight, but there is a chance that he will see again if he is able to afford to get this operation and the follow-up care he’ll need afterwards.

He’s lived a life giving to others and now it’s time to give back the same in return.

So please, help us keep Michael's dream alive!
