Spearfish City Park Band Shell Project

Tax deductible
This GoFundMe project has been created by Spread the Tunes, Inc.  We are a Spearfish based 501c3 non-profit established in 2015 that has held numerous events to raise funds and awareness for local charities and other groups.   We had a busy 2018 creating and hosting events for Northern Hills CASA, Western Hills Humane Society, The Artemis House, Spearfish Bike Co-op, Black Hills Trails-Spearfish Zone, two events for the Spearfish Food Pantry and our Canyon Acoustic Series which raised $10,000 for the DC Booth Fish Hatchery this year.  We brought in national touring acts from all over the country as well as showcased some amazing local talent.  In 2018, we also established a music scholarship for a Spearfish High School Senior which was awarded to Anne-Marie Rolando during the Acoustic Series.  We have had tremendous support over the years and would like to keep the momentum going in 2019!

One of our biggest goals for 2019 is to gain support for a project we feel would benefit the city, members of our community, as well as visitors to our wonderful town of Spearfish.  We host our annual Canyon Acoustic Series in the Spearfish City Park. The current city park band shell was constructed in the 1960’s as a memorial to local band director Mr. Charles McClung.  Over the past 50+ years the band shell hasn’t received any renovations minor cosmetic updates.  There are a number of issues with the structure at this time including sinking one one side, outdated wiring, no loading ramp, cracked concrete as well as not being up to current ADA code.  The current location was built at the time the historic Passion Play was in production, so not to interfere with their play, the band shell was constructed amplifying sound directly into the residential neighborhoods.  We have reached out to the remaining members of Mr McClungs family and received their full support for a new band shell. We would like to demolish the current structure and construct a new one to the south of its current location.  A new structure built to face the north would lower the noise level for all nearby residents as well as open up more park space.  This location would also make it ideal to load and unload out of the back of the stage from the current parking lot.  We would NOT have to remove any existing trees or structures.

Our group Spread the Tunes has been in discussions with the city to start fundraising for this project.   This project is not in the current city budget but we are confident with the collective effort of community members and local businesses in town, we can get a great start on making this happen!

We will be raising funds by hosting events throughout the year and also be visiting community members and businesses for their support.  We are currently in the process of having a site plan and artist rendition created to provide a vision for the project.  If you or your business would be interested in getting involved, please contact one of members of Spread the Tunes.
