Spreading Bear Cub Pride With Blankets!
My name is Shauna Anderson and in this final
semester of my undergraduate career I am completing the last portion of my
Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (Psychology minor). As a student
intern in Mrs. Chlomoudis Kindergarten class at Riverview Elementary School and
upon completion of my internship, I must generate a comprehensive unit lesson
plan and my theme is inspiring the difference between wants and needs.
Encouraged by a Caldecott Medal book award winner, A Chair for My Mother by Vera B. Williams,
my aim is to reassure my students that even
though they live in an area of low socioeconomic status where material things
exist only in their dreams, that even giving the smallest amount can make a
huge difference.
To tie this all in, I am working along with my students to begin with a penny
collection. The intention is to raise enough money for each child to make a
fleece blanket and provide it to one elderly individual at a local nursing
home. Each blanket is approximately
4yds, totaling $30 a students for 25 students. My goal is to raise $775, and
that is where YOU come in. There are no donations too big or too small.
Please consider assisting us in the overwhelming feeling of joy associated with
helping those less fortunate.
