St. Augustine Christian Service Center (SACSC) is a Small, 850 sq. foot facility that desperately needs to find a larger location and continue to provide for the 1300+ families a month that we provide food - both spiritual and physical- for. We have been in operation since 1999.
Our center is the local hub for homeless, seniors and needy families. Due to our small, confined space, it is difficult for more than a few people to be inside with the volunteers at a time.
In the summer in Florida, elderly men and women are waiting outside in a line in the extreme heat just to get food because there simply is not enough space indoors at our location. Many of them are disabled and cannot stand for long periods of time, but have no choice due to the fact that they must get the food from us to save money for other costs. We'd like to be able to have a larger space where our clients could come in during the day and escape the heat and have some lunch items and a cold drink. Many of the people we serve have special needs like wheelchairs, canes and walkers that can barely squeeze through our overcrowded facility. The funds we raise would go for providing a larger building or warehouse so we can accommodate more people and used for purchasing food when donations are low.
