Stephanie, Our Warrior Queen, has entered the ring for the fight of her life and she is going to need the support of her army and beyond to get through this, as she was recently diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML. FLT3). On Thursday, May 17, 2018 Steph was sent to Stanford Medical Center after results from a local blood test came back with dangerous levels of white blood cells. The tests were a result of Stephanie seeking medical attention after experiencing a recent series of issues that she had believed to be related to her Multiple Sclerosis. Severe headaches, debilitating in nature, a terrible ulcer on her tongue that made it impossible for her to eat and she even blacked out at one point. It was then that she realized this was beyond the challenges that she already dealt with and considered part of her “normal” with MS. Upon her arrival at Stanford they immediately began chemotherapy treatment and told her that she had cancer. It took a couple of days and a very painful bone marrow biopsy to reveal exactly what form of leukemia she would be battling. Given the seriousness of Stephanie’s already highly compromised immunity, the treatment plan for her is very individualized and she is being taken care of with extra care and attention.

Tad has not left Stephanie’s side since she was admitted almost two weeks ago, and he plans on supporting her continually in the time ahead. Stephanie is currently undergoing induction chemotherapy with the hopes of putting the cancer into remission before undergoing a bone marrow transplant. If, or should I say when her marrow test comes back clean of the cancer cells, she will undergo stem cell therapy and that will then have them staying in Palo Alto an additional 100 days for 24 hour care and treatment. Much is uncertain at this point, but we do know that the Rothbauer family could use the help of each and every one of us to get through this scary, unpredictable, and very expensive journey.

This Go Fund Me account is being set up to go directly to the family to pay for the many costs associated with Stephanie’s current and future treatments.

ABOUT STEPHANIE:
To know Steph is to love her. Her vibrancy and genuine love of life is present in everything she does. Even during these difficult times. What would cripple many has only displayed her strengths even more. This passion is displayed in everything she is a part of. She has been a supporter of the national and local MS Foundation, she’s a well-recognized interior designer (which class studies she completed in the initial stages of battling her MS), she’s an amazing participant in the county Big Brothers and Big Sisters project where she was recently honored as Big Sister of 2018. Steph received this honor because like everything she commits to she has been committed to her little sister and it is a commitment that she plans to see through the young lady’s time in school and beyond. Steph’s family is her biggest passion and her focus is and always has been to ensure that TJ (age 14), Brayden (age 12), and Mia (age 8) are happy, loved and know their place in her heart. The battle ahead is not going to be easy and the only option is that she comes out the champion, but Steph and her family are going to need all of our support facing this future of uncertainty. For a woman that lives by a plan and a calendar you can imagine the strain and fear that she is feeling and yet she does so with smiles, jokes and making the rest of us still better for being a part of her life. Let’s help where we can and take whatever burden away so that her and her family’s focus can be on her recovery and time together that is and always will be a priceless amenity.

WHAT THE MONEY WILL BE USED FOR:
Although Stephanie and Tad have medical insurance through his employer, there are many, many costs that are not covered through insurance. Your generous donations will go towards helping pay for a variety of costs associated with Stephanie’s treatment including:

- Co-pays for medications and treatments

Many of the treatments that Stephanie is and will be receiving are VERY expensive and insurance does not always cover everything.

- Gas, hotel rooms and restaurant food

Stephanie is currently being treated at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA, a 4 hour drive north from her family’s home in Paso Robles. Her future treatments and potential bone marrow transplant will also be at least a few hours from her home. Your contributions will go directly towards covering the many ancillary costs associated with a family of five living away from home for an extended period of time.
