We're adopting! If you know us well, you knew this...like three years ago.
This January, we were approved to be on the waiting list with Hope's Promise. A great agency in Colorado recommended by many of our church friends. A huge step forward (of thousands)!
We've had mixed feeling about creating a GoFundMe. Depleting your savings and going into massive debt is all part of being a parent, right? So, why ask for money if you're adopting?
Well, we've had many friends and family ask how they can help.
First and foremost: we covet your prayers! There's a lot that is out of our control, but God is bigger than it all and we know He has a plan. Our prayer is for His will to be done, for the health of the baby/birth mother, and for our ability to have wisdom and discernment as we walk this unique path. We can't thank our prayer warriors enough!
For those asking 'how else can I help?', you can partner with us financially to help make this happen. Adoption is expensive!
We estimate, even after tax credits, our first adoption will cost between $20,000 and $23,000 out-of-pocket before the child is even in our home.
So, you might be asking... Why does adoption cost so much? Why are you adopting? What kind of adoption are you doing? Once you take the baby home, are they legally your child?
Jaime has written an excellent blog post answering all of the above and much more, complete with FAQ's for those wanting to learn more.
Since your gift will not only support us, but also further the mission of our agency, you may wish to learn more about them. They have a great annual report.
Whether you give financially or not, you cannot imagine how much your support means to us. We greatly appreciate your prayers and support throughout this process.
Thank you,
Brian & Jaime
P.S. We love answering questions about our adoption, or the adoption process in general. Really! People seem nervous to ask questions, but ask away!
P.P.S. If you have questions about GoFundMe, how it works, etc. they have a good FAQ for donors.
