Donation protected
We are starting an emergency relief fund in Carbondale,Illinois to assist with all efforts in Nepal. You can either donate here or donate to Nepalese Student Society (NSS) and we will coordinate. This donation will be used only for the victims of earthquake through the help of Red Cross, Rotary Club or Unnited Nation.
Summary
A 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal near the capital of Kathmandu. Immediate rescue efforts are underway and the estimated death toll continues to rise. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed, but aid groups are mobilizing to provide support and emergency supplies to the people impacted by the earthquake. All donations to this fund will exclusively support relief and recovery efforts in Nepal. We will update on an ongoing basis as details emerge.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The earthquake between Kathmandu and Pokhara has caused extensive damage in Nepal. Several of our international partners need help responding to survivors' immediate needs, and our local nonprofit partners have also asked for help in funding their relief and recovery efforts on the ground. "We need support from the various international agencies which are more knowledgeable and equipped to handle the kind of emergency we face now," said Information Minister Minendra Rijal.
How will this project solve this problem?
All donations to this fund will support disaster recovery and relief efforts in response to the region of Nepal impacted by this earthquake. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors' immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, hygiene products, and shelter. Once initial relief work is complete, this fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted local organizations.
Potential Long Term Impact
We believe that organizations that are deeply-rooted in local communities are often in the best position to provide long-term support for disaster victims. By funding the relief efforts of local and international non-profit organizations, donations to this fund have the potential to build stronger disaster-response capacity so that these organizations are better equipped to face future disasters. NSS will post reports about how funds have been used and will email these reports to donors and subscribers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all Nepalese during these difficult times!
Thank you.
