Study Abroad, South Africa!
Greetings!
My name is Symone Smith; a junior at Roosevelt University studying African American Studies, artist and budding community activist. I am writing you in hopes that you are able to support my goal to reach South Africa this Spring 2014 with my class titled, "Whiteness in a Global Society." In it we hope to explore and achieve a better understanding of racial systems, colonization, and Black identity across multiple societies, different histories and the affects of neoliberalism globally. Being able to travel abroad in SA will help to better grasp these concepts allowing me to better contribute to my community back home, as well as, offer me a moving and transformative experience.
South African not only provides an insight to the detriments of racial relations, but also a myriad of artist who illuminate this struggle through their art. I plan to do the same and exhibit my experiences through a screen printed zine. Everyone who donates will recieve a zine (upon completion), button and patch made by yours truly. If you are interested please click here to learn more about the trip or contact me at my provided email for questions.
Okay, this is where my spiel ends. I hope that you can participate in a truly awe inspiring experience with your help.
With Much Gratitude,
Symone Smith
