Nepal Relief Mission

Donation protected
In early January 2015 two longtime friends, Joe and Ashton, reconnected and started planning a trek through the Langtang region of the Himalayan Mountains of Nepal. The trek would include stays at local tea houses, visits to rural areas, and treks across high elevation passes with incredible views. The friends grew up together and for many years had wanted to visit Nepal to trek. The massive 7.8 earthquake in Nepal has changed everything. Weeks of planning are now obsolete, but a new plan has been formed…

Utilizing our connections in Nepal, we have been able to repurpose our trip into one that will work with The Mountain Institute in Nepal to provide aid. We will be trekking to the rural epicenter of the earthquake to bring supplies, deliver first aid, help build temporary shelters, and purify water. The decision to adapt our trek has been made quickly. As this is being written it is Sunday April 26, 2015 our date of departure is less than a week away. We are asking for the immediate help of everyone to provide funding for supplies to Nepal as they re-build their communities. Many of the larger fundraising and relief efforts in Nepal will not make to where they are needed due to corruption in the Nepalese government. Being that our tickets are already purchased and we are all eager to volunteer our services, the funds and resources that we are able to collect will go directly to projects in the form of: food for laborers rebuilding efforts, temporary shelters, and water purification systems.

Our teams’ educational backgrounds encompass architecture, civil engineering, outdoor education, recreational therapy and physics. Members of the team are certified wilderness first responders, wilderness EMTs and other experienced backcountry travelers. One of the trip members, Ashton, has spent much time in Nepal learning the language and culture. We will be applying our skills hands on with no bureaucracy to complicate our efforts. Contributions will directly benefit Nepalese people affected by the earthquake.

The team consists of Ashton Wilson, Alaina O’Neill, Joe Ambrosich, Emily Hayden, Aaron Travers and Kyle Wong.
