Dear Reader!
I am an independent scholar in the field of oral history and American / Transnational Studies, of very modest means. I recently went through a very costly immigration experience and have no savings, but it is my dream to continue to do research and actively pursue the dream of continuing oral history projects, which is my life's passion. I deeply care about telling the stories of the people I interview as an oral historian. In order to continue to be able to do that, I need to begin going to conferences again after a long break due to a very tough time financially. I was recently accepted to this conference:
"ORAL HISTORY IN CENTRAL-EASTERN EUROPE: CURRENT RESEARCH AREAS, CHALLENGES AND SPECIFICITY”
Organisers:
Department of Sociology of Culture, University of Lodz
Polish Oral History Association
Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences
Conference venue:
Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Lodz, Poland,
90-214 Lodz, 41/43 Rewolucji 1905 r. Street
I have just recently received some outside funding to help offset the cost of travel to this, however I still need to purchase a set of books from my publisher so I can use this rare opportunity to promote my book, based on my PhD dissertation, which is coming out toward the end of July (already available for pre-order on Amazon). The book is entitled "A Transnational History of Punk in Poland: From Nihilism to Nothing Outside Punk" (Lexington Books). Unfortunately, the publisher only gives me 6 copies free of charge, and the rest is extremely expensive even with the small author discount.
In order to make an impact to help further my goals of promoting oral history and preserving the memory of Polish punk, I need to purchase at least 20 copies to be able to give them away to libraries and cultural institutions in Poland. With each book costing approximately $67.50 with my discount, that would set me back $1,350, which in itself is almost as much as the cost of traveling.
While in Poland, it is also my goal to organize oral history workshops and promote the idea of oral history beyond the conference and the book tour, with the use of workshops and meetings with faculty members, museum staff, etc.
In order to be able to do all that, I need Your support to purchase the books, and cover the incidental costs of travel beyond the flight and conference fee.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
Polish: Ogromnie dziekuje za Panstwa wsparcie!
Best regards,
Marta Marciniak, PhD
