Support Taiko Swing Humboldt!
We're raising money to host performances of SWINGPOSIUM ON THE ROAD by San Jose Taiko in January 2020, in Humboldt County, as a program of the Humboldt Folklife Society. Swingposium is a tribute to big band music and swing dance set in a mess hall at a WWII Japanese American incarceration camp, where guests become part of the narrative from the inside.
Swingposium is a 90-minute immersive, 360-degree, theatrical experience, created by San Jose Taiko in cooperation with Epic Immersive, and brought to Humboldt County in collaboration with local musicians (HSU jazz band) and performers.
There will be TWO community performances at the Bayside Community Hall, a performance at HSU for Fred Korematsu Day and two performances for high school students.
Leading up to these events will be an OLLI Brown Bag Presentation on October 14th with Jack Bareilles on the local trial of Tule Lake internees/WWII draft resisters and Mitch Higa’s update on the Crystal City Detention Center resistance by Japanese Americans. There will also be a pop-up museum. And don't forget about our fundraiser, Rockin’ Ramen, on Friday, October 18, 2019! Chef Johnny Honda prepares a special ramen dinner as a fundraiser for Swingposium with taiko drumming, music and silent auction.
Any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
Bringing Taiko Swingposium to Humboldt is important to us because we are uniting the local Asian American community and larger community around current issues - mass incarceration of families is a relevant civil rights issue, as history is repeating itself.
DONATION LEVELS:
$1000+ “Taiko Sponsor” | Receives 4 tickets to Rockin’ Ramen, 4 special seats at the HSU performance, and media recognition.
$500+ “Odaiko” The Big Drum | Receives 2 tickets to Rockin’ Ramen, 2 special seats at the HSU performance, program recognition
