Hello, everyone! My name is Stephanie Offei-Ntow. Please help me to raise £60,000 by 1st July 2018 towards my tuition fees to start my Masters in International History at Columbia Graduate School of Arts and Sciences & London School of Economics (LSE) to start in August 2018!
Over 200 applications were submitted with only 25 places available! This programme is extremely competitive and I am really excited to have been offered a place!

Why study International and World History?

Having received all my education in the UK, the History of Africa itself as a discipline is congested with Eurocentric historians, narrating African history, reinforcing the saying that the “winner writes the history books - books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe”. The History of Africa currently neglects the historical interaction between African states. Did you know that Nigeria played a crucial role in the end of South Africa’s apartheid? If students in schools knew this - if the South African government was AWARE of its own history? – surely then could we tackle and get to the root of South Africa’s xenophobia? These are just some of the questions I often ponder.

As a historian, I will challenge 'truths' and hopefully give a voice to my work by pursuing this masters programme.

I have a deep-seated interest in the history of Africa especially Ghanaian history, which is what I intend to focus on when writing my dissertation. I believe that by studying Ghanaian history and African history from a Pan-African perspective, I can add value by adding to the existing literature by looking at this history from a different standpoint.

My long-term goal is to publish my work and add to the current literature on African history. I also intend to pursue my PhD and teach at a university. There is an evident lack of black female professors within top universities in the UK and I hope to be one of the many to change this.

Why Columbia & LSE?

I applied for this specific degree programme because  this double degree will give me the opportunity to analyse large-scale historical processes, pursue empirical research and produce my own work with the guidance of leading experts in their field. This programme also enables me to study within different intellectual and cultural settings in two global cities.

What will I do with the money?

The estimated cost of my tuition fees at Columbia $36,419 and at LSE is £18,813.60. As the exchange rate fluctuates that is an approx. total cost (rounded up to the nearest ten) of £45,612.38.

I will be submitting my scholarship applications by the end of October for the Fulbright Award (worth up to $45,000) and the AAUW’s International Fellowship program (worth up to $18,000 dollars).

I will be also applying to the LSE Graduate Support Scheme (which gives me a scholarship/bursary for my tuition fees) however I can only apply to this in my first year at Columbia and I must show that I have raised enough funds if I don't get awarded this scheme.

Please note that I will keep everyone updated with the outcome of my scholarship applications due to come out in February 2018!!

I also plan on using my savings and if I get the AAWU scholarship to fund other costs such as health, rent & utilities, books & supplies, transportation and personal expenses. My target is £10,000.

However, if I am unable to gain enough from my scholarship applications, I will not be able to attend this program. Please note that any money I do need will be donated to a charity/organisation of my choice.

2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT: And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

Any amount that can be contributed towards this is sincerely appreciated!!

I am really excited to be starting this journey! I hope that by overcoming my fears and accomplishing my goals then I can also challenge other millennials to add value to their respective fields of interest too!
