The Rebound Project

Donation protected

Dear friends, readers, and supporters,

Thank you so much for taking your time to read about my project – my personal mission.

Firstly, allow me to stress that this project does not intend to heal, cure or even advise its potential users. My project does not embody an underlying medical scheme or protocol – nor will it have the ability to.

The project, Rebound, reflects an advanced approach to a profound, worldwide issue. If successful, it will be a pioneer in its field.

My idea is an app for individuals who are withdrawing and tapering off prescription medicines.

It is a tool, not a medical guide, developed to meet the needs of individuals who are currently depending on drugs that cause painful side-effects, intense relapses, and physical and psychological addictions.

I have recovered from a medicine addiction myself, and I have passionately devoted all my time to create a tool with the potential to ease withdrawal. I want to see an end to the misery.

Please read about the project, and its development, in greater details below. Hopefully, you will recognize its incredible potential. If successful, this project will have the ability to reach millions of people around the world who struggle with medicine

My name is Silvia Meyer (this is a photo of me with my twins). I am currently in the middle of realizing my innovative idea – Rebound - an advanced app targeting individuals who wish to taper off prescription medicines.

I am the project manager, and a previous medicine addict. I have recovered from 14 years of addiction.

For the past 5 years, I have been working with addiction in a Danish, nonprofit organization named Misbrugsportalen (translation: The Misuse Portal www.misbrugsportalen.dk). As the founder of this organization, I can truthfully say that have both personal and professional experience with medicine dependency and addiction. Through Misbrugsportalen, I have been able to support addicts and their relatives.

The concept behind Rebound has been developed in collaboration with my co-partner, Lærke Ladefoged-Demant. She has worked with addiction recovery, treatment, and social development projects for 14 years and currently manages NGO projects at Misbrugsportalen.

While the app, Reboud, is an independent project, the underlying mission - to aid and ease withdrawal from prescription drugs - remains.

Rebound’s Relevance
When experiencing medicine dependency, a person’s brain, body, and mind start to rely on the given substances. Consequently, all drugs and prescription medicines can promote addictions – also in individuals who are receiving long-term medical treatments.

Prescription medicines are considered high risk-drugs and can be unimaginably hard to withdraw from.

Across the world, many people rely on prescription drugs. While most of these individuals follow the guidance from health professionals and take medicines in accordance with their instructions, they find themselves extremely affected by long-term treatments. Their daily lives are overpowered by many and diverse side-effects and withdrawal symptoms. They struggle with tapering off these, highly addictive, prescription medicines.

Additionally, some individuals take prescription medicines for nonmedical reasons and may be on the path towards developing medicine addictions.

The latest National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH, 2015) found that an estimated 6.4 million Americans reported misusing psychotherapeutic drugs in the past month and that more than half of these people (3.8 million) had misused prescription pain relievers.

Furthermore, the NSDUH survey from 2013 revealed that 20% of all Americans, at the age of 12 years or older, reported any lifetime use of a prescription psychotherapeutic medicine.

The largest numbers of misconduct are currently found in the US; however, citizens in European countries, such as Great Britain and Spain, report similar behaviors. On a worldwide scale, addictions to prescription drugs have become more prevalent in recent years.

Rebound strives to support all users of prescription drugs in their withdrawal processes.

The Rebound Effect
The app is being developed to meet personal needs and pays special attention to individuals who are experiencing the rebound effect.

The effect shows its face when a given medicine no longer can be associated with the positive impact conditioning its novel use. The rebound effect causes medicine to become less effective. Symptoms, that were previously overcome, return, and often feel more intense if the person is relying on high-risk prescription medicines.

To limit these side effects, the solution for most people is to taper off the medication. However, the rebound effect is extremely difficult to manage.

When using the app, Rebound, users will find an extended list of common prescription drugs and medicine groups. A user can create unique step-down programs that include the main medication he or she wants to taper off and add other, supplementary medications, if needed.

A user may plan their withdrawal in collaboration with a health professional; however, the dates for downscaling medicine dosages are ultimately determined by the individual user.

Furthermore, a user can modify medicine dosages, or the step-down program’s end date, at any time. In accordance with the user’s most recent instructions, Rebound will give notifications about when to take a medicine.

During the tapering and withdrawal process, the user will be encouraged to measure experiences of symptoms and track overall well-being. To truly grasp physical and psychological progress, Rebound generates holistic graphs that visualize the connection between a user’s lower medical dosages, expression of symptoms, and feelings of well-being.

Rebound recognizes that medicine addicts have different experiences and diverse needs. By rejecting the belief that “one-fits-all”, the goal of Rebound is to help all individuals succeed in their withdrawal processes.

What are Rebound’s Prospects?
The Rebound project is independent of sponsors and official support. Once the initial version of Rebound is launched, the app will rely on its users.

Rebound offers a paid membership for an affordable subscription fee. The membership entitles users to gain access to all features of the app. However, the basic step-down program is free.

The key component of Rebound’s DNA is user quality. To secure the future development of Rebound, the app encourages all users to give feedback.

With a donation, you can support my project and contribute to the ongoing development of a tool that can change lives. My mission will be manifested in this highly advanced and valuable app that can be downloaded for free on App Store and Google Play.

Your support will enable the initial version of Rebound to comprise:

- Complete graphic design

- All features

And optimize:

- Backend administration

- User-friendly programming

- Ongoing translations into other languages

If you choose to contribute, you will receive exclusive highlights about the app’s progress, and, depending on your donation, you will be awarded a free Rebound membership on the 1st of December 2017 to experience the app first hand.

If you wish to get in touch with me, have any questions or just want to share your immediate thoughts, please write a comment below.
