Team Apprille: Jacob's Medical Fund
Donation protected
This week, our son, Jacob, will be undergoing major surgery for PERTHES, a rare childhood disease that causes avascular necrosis in the hip (bone cell death). It will be at least 3 months before Jacob can begin to walk again.
It will be a long road ahead for Jacob, as bone regeneration initially takes about two years, but often continues through adulthood.
Jacob’s father is away helping with reconstruction in Puerto Rico and we are raising funds for a stair-lift, wheelchair ramp, PT and other medical equipment that is deeply needed, but not covered under insurance.
(In Jacob's own words... view video below)
Jacob has been strong and courageous through this experience. As a family, we try to help others. But now ... we are in need.

Jacob’s father, Tom Apprille Jr., works as a supervisor for environmental services. After Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, he took an assignment with Northstar Recovery to help with commercial reconstruction in badly hit areas near San Juan. Tom will be in Puerto Rico for up to 9 months, helping to rebuild infrastructure there.

Even though it’s a hard time to be away, Tom's salary is more vital than ever with all these unexpected challenges. Still, with one child undergoing surgery, and the other on the autism spectrum, we need help to bridge the gap. (See Tom's video from Puerto Rico)
The Costs
We are reaching out in an effort to raise $22,500 to support Jacob through his surgery and rehabilitation. The money will be spent on medical/rehabilitation costs and handicap equipment such as a wheelchair ramp, stair lift, bathroom safety enhancements and other home accessibility needs that are not covered under insurance.
Additionally, funds will support physical and occupational therapy as Jacob learns to walk again.
Sharing the LoveWe are blessed with friends and colleagues who are contributing their design talents to offer Thank You Rewards to Jacob’s donors. Our hope is to "Share the Love" and pay it forward with our deepest gratitude. Additionally, Jacob will be designing pins to be shard with his donors. Stay tuned for weekly additions and updates.
Thanks for reading! Wishing you joy.
