Tanner was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma on his 14th birthday in March 2015. He finished treatment in 01/2016 & enjoyed 18 months of cancer-free living until 8/4/17 when he experienced his first relapse.
Tanner finished therapy on 1/19/2018, for his first relapse & began maintenance chemotherapy to try & prevent Ewing Sarcoma from coming back. Unfortunately, Ewing Sarcoma is a very aggressive bone cancer & on 12/5/18, it returned for the 3rd time. On 9/10/19 it returned for a 4th time, 1/31/2020 for the 5th & unfortunately, the cancer has continued to spread this year despite treatments. The aggressiveness of this terrible cancer does not intimidate Tanner. He wants to continue to fight and has a strong determination to live that is absolutely amazing.
We are very thankful for all the prayers, support & encouragement! But mostly we are thankful for the many miracles & blessings God has shown us & so many others through Tanner's battle with ES!
Matthew 19:26

A note from Leslie & Tripp Haywood (Tanners parents):
We were just a normal family, "livin the dream", until March 17, 2015. That's the day we took Tanner to Champion Orthopedics to have his right lower leg looked at because he had been complaining of intermittent pain for a few months. After the x-ray showed something "concerning", Tanner was sent for an MRI, with the hopes that what was seen on the x-ray was a cyst or old fracture. Unfortunately, it did not & the day after Tanners 14th birthday, we were told we needed to be seen by a specialist for what appeared to be a sarcoma. Two weeks & a battery of test later, Tanner was officially diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma on March 23rd. It was the most shocking news we have ever received for our family! We have clung to our hope & faith in God & strongly believe that we have greater days ahead! Tanner has a very positive attitude, despite the "fast & furious" treatment plan that has been prescribed.
Tanner chose the scripture from Matthew 19:26 which says, "With God, ALL things are possible", as his motto for this journey! He has been such an inspiration to many in such a short time!
12/11/18 It's really hard to believe that our child is about to battle this nasty cancer for the 3rd time. We don't know what the future holds but we know who holds our future & we are so very thankful for your support on this tough journey.
9/10/2019 Tanners 4th occurrence. Devastated but not done fighting. Never heard of Ewing sarcoma, be very thankful.
1/31/2020 The 5th occurrence. At a completed loss for words right now that Tanner is still having to fight this cancer but thankful & grateful for every day we are given to fight.
9/8/2020 The cancer continues to spread despite many treatments. It has been decided Tanner should enter a clinical trial at the Cleveland Clinic.
9/14/2020 We left Augusta, GA for Cleveland, OH to enter the trial. He was accepted into the trial on 9/18 but on 9/20 became very ill & was admitted to the hospital with fever, bells palsy & mastoiditis. He ended up in surgery on 9/21 & stayed in the hospital for four more days. Tanner is no longer eligible for the trial he originally came to the CC for but on 10/6 will begin another treatment with the same regimen requiring him to be at the CC 2 weeks a month.
Tanner has a lot ahead of him in the days to come but he is a true warrior that wants to keep fighting so that’s what we are going to do!! He/we remain hopeful & will continue to ask God to heal him this side of heaven! Tanners strength & perseverance is definitely a gift from God & keeps us in awe of how faithful God has been on this very long journey!
We sincerely thank you for your support & prayers-
