The Print Cast is a podcast all about the wide world of printmaking. I am the host, Nick Naughton, and I center the show around candid talks with artists about their work in the studio and how they pursue their creative lives. Ultimately, it’s an exploration about why we printmakers love putting ink on paper, but it’s also about history, social and political topics, and how creatives navigate this crazy social world we live in. In time, the interviews featured on The Print Cast will serve as an archive for future generations to learn about the artists we know and love today. I started the podcast in 2017 and it began with a search for similar shows, and when that proved difficult I decided to create this platform where artists like myself could learn about their peers’ work in a simple and endlessly consumable format. Podcasts are the democratic art form of today, and so why not use it to talk about it’s predecessor, the printing arts? The show has been successful thus far, reaching listeners around the world and uniting a community of artists and print lovers alike. We’ve broken into the ranks of iTunes for design and art, and the show has surpassed 5000 listens with a very passionate and devoted base. Listenership is growing at an exponential rate, and this is just the beginning. Recently an unexpected hurdle arrived in the form of a broken laptop. While it’s not the end of the world to have computer issues, it’s made it difficult to continue with the show in its current format. I need my computer to do the long distance Skype calls, edit the show, creat show promotional designs, and lots more. Without the funds to pay for the repair right away, I have opted to do this GoFundMe to ask for help. It would take me months to save up for the repairs, and I don’t want to lose more momentum. I am prepared to resume editing and recording if you’ll consider helping me out. Podcasting is often a solo project, as is the case for The Print Cast, with me doing coordination, design, recording and production, editing, and promotions. Because I love doing the show and feel the warmth from the community of listeners who appreciate it, I’m here asking for help so I can continue creating the show. $1300 will pay for the repair of my machine, including data backups which will ensure my previous episodes are saved (that’s already done and we managed to save two recent interviews that are intended to launch soon! Thank the print gods for that!)The sooner I take care of the repair the sooner I can resume the work of The Print Cast and celebrate this insanely cool world of printmaking.
