YANI COMES HOME TO LOVE HERSELF
The film follows 22 year old Yanique, a Carribean-American girl going back to her old neighborhood with a new degree trying to navigate her way through old lovers and the traditional ideals of her mom. At first she dreads this, but by the end of the film she learns so much about herself and how to love who she is without any additives.
Why is this movie being made?
The ideas that have threaded this film together are universally designed around women and our redefining of who we choose to be, despite the expectations of a male driven-society. The film deals with self love, acceptance, body positivity, Yanique's relationship with her mom, as well as herself in relation to the men around her. It was really important for me to write something about a woman of color leading an ordinary life, with regular challenges as I don't see us represented so much in many of the popular genres of the film industry.
This film will serve as my junior thesis for the film conservatory at SUNY Purchase, as well submission to various festivals.
How can you help?
Please help the dedicated team & myself in making my junior film! I've spent all semester planning, so here are the numbers and how you can help:
