Julie Kursave and friends are posting this to raise funds for their friend Tara Baisden
The morning of March 31, 2015 was guaranteed to be a great one with Tara Baisden celebrating spring break with her two beloved teenagers.   A single mother, she was looking forward to her firstborn graduating from high school in May and his subsequent leave for college in the fall.  All of the hope and joy of that day was ripped away in an instant when a 17 year old driver, driving at a high rate of speed, rounded a curve in the road while talking on his cell phone and lost control of his vehicle.  He slammed into Tara’s Ford 150 truck, directly into her driver’s door, and shattered not only that day, but many days and months to come.   Tara’s truck was knocked across 4 lanes of traffic, ending up in a ditch.  She was unconscious as the paramedics and fire department arrived, used the Jaws of Life to extricate her from her vehicle, and airlift her to the nearest hospital.  After the ER received her, and after multiple pints of blood and emergency measures ensued, she was again airlifted to a trauma hospital where she remained for 9 days, heavily sedated and broken, with no memory of the accident or the 9 days in the hospital that followed.  Tara suffered 5 broken ribs, 2 broken vertebrae, a broken tailbone, two pelvic fractures and both kidneys were severely lacerated.  She has acute tissue and muscle damage to her upper left thigh which will result in permanent deformity.   Since the accident, Tara has been back in the hospital 4 times requiring surgery on the thigh wound for tunneling infection as a result of this type of injury.   She is attached to a wound vac for negative-pressure wound therapy as the area begins a slow healing process.  Subsequent surgeries are a high probability if the infection site continues to tunnel outward, requiring the opening of the tunnels of infection, remove the infected muscle and tissue, and start the healing process all over again.

An accomplished author and well respected designer in the quilting world, Tara will be facing a long recovery time with numerous months of missed work as she begins physical therapy to heal her broken body and begin the slow process of learning to walk again.  She no longer has a vehicle as hers was destroyed in the accident.   The dream of attending her firstborn’s graduation ceremony and all of the activities leading up to that day have been shattered, as it will be months before she can walk or sit unattended.   A self-less mother and devoted friend, Tara has influenced many lives with her devotion to her children, her community, and her craft.  Despite this devastating accident, Tara has remained positive and a true inspiration to others.  Tara nor her family would ever ask for financial help for herself, so we as her friends are asking for her.  Her medical bills are daunting, and growing daily.  This is the perfect opportunity to give to someone who has given so much to others.
