Type W1n

Type W1n is a new fundraiser for people with Type 1 Diabetes, primarily children.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that cannot be cured or prevented. People of all ages can become T1 Diabetic, but it is mainly  diagnosed in children.

Being a diabetic who was diagnosed at the young age of 8, I didn't know what was happening, all I knew was that I was different. My parents were probably more affected than I was, because they now took on a more frightening responsibility: caring for a child with T1D.

Most people don't understand what diabetics go through on a regular basis. Every day is a struggle. Although we have effective treatments, we do not have a cure. People with diabetes have to check their blood sugars multiple times a day to ensure they will not have high blood sugar (which can, in worse cases, result in diabetic coma) or low blood sugar (which could also result in going in to a coma). Although there are many methods we use to keep our blood sugars regulated, life happens and lows and highs are just a reality of being T1D.

People die everyday from complications from T1D, whether it be going to sleep and night and never waking up in the morning or having complications later on in life.

The money raised will be used to help families get some piece of mind by being able to purchase a Dexcom CGM (continuous glucose monitor). This device allow a T1D to be able to see their blood sugar every 5 minutes, without having to poke their fingers every five minutes. The device warns the user of blood sugars on the rise as well as warning the user if their sugars are dropping.

Once we are more established, we will also offer our funds to adult T1D who are in need of a CGM as well!

Although it would be amazing if every diabetic had a CGM, these devices are not cheap. They cost over $1000 just for the transmitter and another $500+ per month for the sensors. Altough some insurance provider do insure this, there is a lot a user must pay up front.

We'd like to get at least 10 people on the CGM before Juvenile Diabetes Awareness Day (November 14th) and continue saving T1D lives from there!

Donate or share this link, remember that every share and every penny counts. You could help save a life!
