Elonwabeni Garden & Sanctuary Room

Donation protected
As our incredible journey in Cape Town continues, we decided to choose our activist project around Elonwabeni, an orphanage located in Mitchell's Plain. Many of the children in this orphanage are victims of physical and sexual abuse, however the spirit they display is unbelievably contagious. We thought of the idea to create a garden for the young people living in this community. As lovers of nature, we think that this would be a great opportunity to encourage these young people to nuture something of their very own, while educating them on how to help our ever so charming mother earth.  We are looking forward to having a special bonding session with these young people, digging our hands into the dirt and further tracking the progress of our plants!

We also are looking to continue on one of the rooms that last years UConn in Cape Town group painted for the teenage girl's hangout room. Having a place to decompress as a teenager is crucial, so we are planning on adding pillows, string lights, a radio, and buying canvases for the girls to paint on to make this room feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

Please help us reach our goal to get materials for our garden and sanctuary room! Any donations are so much very appreciated. Progress photos will be on the way :)
