Urban Food Forest Otrobanda’s Vision:
The dream is to transform 500+ urban square meters into a lush self-sustaining forest. Not just any forest, a FOOD forest where every plant, shrub and tree is either edible, or can be used for medicinal purposes. A community forest where young & old can learn, eat, and enjoy all the miracles plant life has to offer.
We believe that everyone can be inspired to live a balanced & healthy life by being exposed to nature’s incredible ways, but not everyone gets the opportunity to be in nature. By growing a Food Forest in the Heart of Unesco World Heritage Willemstad, we aim to provide this exposure of not only Nature but also an abundance of fruits, vegetables & herbs to facilitate a wholesome healthy way of living.
So WHY are we growing a self-sustaining food forest, and not just another community garden? Because it provides the added benefit of creating an ecosystem that is able to thrive on its own looong after we’ve past it on to the next generation. We want to create something that will withstand the test of time and contributes not only to this community, but many generations after.
BUT we need YOU to make this dream a reality. Please help us set up the Urban Food Forest in Otrobanda, so that we can help this community & generations after to live healthier & happier lives.
WHAT will we be doing with your donation I hear you wonder?
To make this all possible the founders of Urban Food Forest Otrobanda purchased a vacant piece of land adjacent to their home. Perfect size for a community garden, but why stop there? When you can realize a full blown forest effect by adding some extra square meters, so out goes the garden they weren’t really using anyway and in comes all the land to make it happen.
All that rests to do is:
- Equalization / Leveling out of the land and making it smooth
This will take 5 people approximately 2 weeks to complete and has been quoted to us at €7.650
- Dump 10 Cubic meters of soil + 4 Cubic meters of compost + 5 Cubic meters of mulch
Which amounts to €600 + €200 + €350 =€1.150
- Install 3 X 4500L watertanks that will store collected rainwater
Cost per used tank €2.500 x 3 = €7.500
- Irrigation system to pump water from tanks to trees
Quoted at €6.500
