The Story
Hi I'm Marybeth, and I started Underground Kitchen February of this year to bring a healthy, natural, organic place for food in Downtown LA. It opened to rave reviews and was greatly appreciated by the neighborhood residents, workers, and visitors. Check out our reviews on Yelp here http://www.yelp.com/biz/underground-kitchen-los-angeles.
What's Happened…
Unfortunately, the store owners did not maintain the space up to current code and the health department issued a C rating due to structural retrofitting. And sadly after just 2 months in business, we were forced me to find a new location.
The Campaign
I found a great little space around the corner on 6th & Spring Street that is available May 1st. It would be at the center of our Historic Care neighborhood and be convenient to all. But this space will require a lot of work in order to make it operable. So I am asking for my friends, neighbors, and lovers of good healthy food to help in bringing Underground Kitchen back to DTLA. There is no other shop offering natural and organic freshly made menu items. This is so needed in our community. Help me make this dream come true. All donors will receive something special from Underground Kitchen.
What We Need
To transform a raw space, takes a lot. There has to be painting, plumbing requirements, and adhering to Board of Health code regulations. And here is a basic breakdown of costs.
Fixtures and Equipment Setup Costs
$16,250
Insurance and Electricity (2 months)
$3,000
Legal, Licensing, and Admin
$750
Rent and Security Deposit (3 months)
$10,000
So please participate and help make this dream come true!
About Me
I'm a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, worked privately for Mayor Koch @ Gracie Mansion as a Special Events Chef, privately for William Paley, founder of CBS. Worked at 5 star restaurant in NYC, opened Giorgio's with Frank Valenza on Park Ave South. Amongst others. Also opened the first restaurant at the World Financial Center, my kitchen overlooked the Statue of Liberty. Worked at Catering events for many years. Established, built, and operated Absolute Catering and Events in Los Angeles, 1994-2002. I left the food industry for a few years and missed it so much. It is where my passion is and the path that I should be on again. After opening Underground Kitchen inside a local market as a PopUp on Spring Street in Downtown Los Angeles and getting rave 5 star reviews in less than 60 days....
