Upper Childs River Restoration - Cape Cod

The Sporting, Safety, Conservation, and Education Fund has as its mission to conserve and preserve the land, waterways, fish and wildlife habitat of Upper Cape Cod.  Our primary focus at this time is to create a "cold water fishery" in the Upper Childs River in order to foster the return and propagation of sea run brook trout as well as other fish to that river.  Years ago, the Upper Childs River was reportedly fished by such historic figures as President Grover Cleveland and Daniel Webster.  By contributing to this conservation effort, you can help restore some valuable history to upper Cape Cod.

An earthen dam at the southern end of the Upper Childs River has created the pond in the picture above.  The dam creating this pond restricts the flow of water and warms the river to such an extent that it has become uninhabitable for trout and other fish.  With your help, this barrier to a free flowing river will be removed allowing trout and native fish to return to the Upper Childs River.
