Healthy Upton Home before Winter

Donation protected
The Upton family has been homeless off and on since April 2010.  The cause of this is Christa's extremely severe toxic injury that overcame her when they lived in a mold-infested home without realizing it. In the past 5 years, the family has rented different homes each winter and spent much of the time camping as soon as the weather in South Dakota warms.  They have been unable to find a place to live that does not make Christa very sick.

Even perfumes can make it hard for Christa to breath.  “Hidden” toxins in the air and environment that don’t affect most people will make Christa fatigued (at the least) and, at the worst, will overtake her with a racing heartbeat and leave her gasping for breath.  Their children suffer from more mild symptoms of toxic injury as well. Their youngest child Sarah, age 10, also suffers from spina bifida, hydrocephalus, seizures and other related struggles.  They desperately need a low-tox home where Christa can gain stability and recover and where Sarah can freely move and play.

Healthy House Building for the New Millenium describes in detail how to build a low-tox home that Christa and the children need.  To allow for room for handicapped accessibility (Sarah's wheelchair) they are aiming for a 1,200-square-foot, simple, healthy structure.  A group of private investors have come together, have already purchased and prepared the land for building.  Private individuals have also generously contributed over $10,000 in the last six months to put in a septic system and put some of the infrastructure into place.  The Uptons now need to raise around $23,000 in order to complete the home, along with handicapped accessible ramp,  and provide some basic appliances and storage needs.

The goal is to raise this money so that construction can begin in September.  In the meantime, the Upton family will be camping on their land.  Once winter hits, it will be too cold to camp safely.  Please donate today so that this dear family does not have to face one more winter searching for a place to live!
