National Fiat Spider Day
Donation protected
Over the years the many models built by Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino (FIAT) have been designated as a “Spider” in conjunction with the design houses of Pininfarina and Bertone. These include the 1200 and 1500 Cabriolet, Dino, and the 850 Spider. Even the Siata Spring and Barchetta have sometimes been referred to as a “Spider.” But few are better known or more recognizable than the 124 Spider and its variations: 124 Sport Spider, Spider 2000, Pininfarina Azzurra, Spider Europa, and Spider Volumex.
Designed by Tom Tjaarda while at Pininfarina, the 124 Spider debuted at the 1966 Turin Auto Show and went into production in 1967 with its classic Italian lines remaining largely unchanged through 1985. Notable iterations were changes to the bumpers to comply with United States safety regulations, various increases in engine displacement, and minor upgrades to the interior.
The Fiat 124 Spider was produced in numbers estimated between 170-200,000. The 124 was highly advanced for its time with a 5-speed transmission, Aurelio Lampredi -designed double overhead cam engine and 4-wheel disk brakes. Its convertible top mechanism is extremely efficient and can be put into the “down” position in less than 30 seconds!
Enthusiasts worldwide can find support for Fiat Spiders through online forums such as FiatSpider.com and events such as the annual Fiat FreakOut sponsored by Fiat Club of America , among others. Many automotive suppliers carry parts to maintain Fiat Spiders and some even specialize in specifically supporting all years and types of Fiat Spiders.
To keep the enthusiasm and appreciation for these cars alive and celebrate what these cars were built for, I am proposing that we institute a National Fiat Spider Day every year on June 21!
This GoFundMe campaign requests your support to make a National Fiat Spider Day possible. Coordination with the National Day Calendar organization has been completed and the application has been accepted. What is needed now is financial support to pay for the National Calendar Day promotion package . The "bronze" level promotion package is the most appropriate and costs $1499.99. This one-time cost includes the proclamation and addition of National Fiat Spider Day to the National Day Calendar (web, Facebook, and print) along with promotion by the National Day Calendar organization through its media channel network. The plaque will be handed over to the founder or administrator of the FiatSpider.com forum.
Any donations received above and beyond our goal will be donated to support the administration of FiatSpider.com (server space, diagnostics, upgrades, etc.). In the event the goal is not reached, any donations received will be transfered to the administration of FiatSpider.com for the purposes stated above.
This donation request will end at midnight 21 June 2015 Pacific Time Zone or when the goal is met - whichever comes first.
