Amy Brooks, we all know her, her family and her friends, we will do everything possible to support her. Amy has always been a determined hardworking woman who has been involved with the community. In high school Amy was a cheerleader volunteering in many fundraisers, moving on to coach for a few years. After high school she has worked hard to put herself through school attending Mohawk College for Protection, Security and Investigation. During her fourth and final semester Amy’s life changed.
In February Amy was rushed to the emergency room because of severe abdominal pain but after examination nothing was found so the Doctors decided to do an exploratory surgery. During this surgery they removed her appendix but they found a bigger problem. The Doctors ran more tests and within the week, on March 6th 2017 our dear Amy Brooks was diagnosed with ovarian cancer which had spread throughout her abdomen. Moving as fast as they could Amy had her first chemotherapy treatment on March 10th. She continues chemotherapy treatment every three weeks and on April 27th Amy will undergo surgery to remove as much of the tumours as possible. Following the surgery she will have between four and six more rounds of chemotherapy treatment. When she finishes her chemotherapy treatments she will be going back to Mohawk College, in order to earn her diploma she will have multiple fitness tests to pass as a requirement of her program.
This news was sudden and devastating for all that know and love Amy. But if you have been so lucky to get to know Amy, well you know how strong she is, and how hard she is fighting!
Norfolk County has already shown how much support we can give to those in need and right now that is Amy Brooks. The residents of Norfolk Country have proved they have so much love, compassion, generosity and warmth. This is the kind of small town love and support Amy needs right now. Small town, big heart.
