Vanuatu East Gippsland Aid Campaign
Donation protected
Dear Friend,
Vanuatu East Gippsland Aid (VEGAid) campaign is not your normal crowdfunding project but rather an appeal to you, as a community, to directly assist a small Pacific nation of Vanuatu which has been devastated by the recent Tropical Cyclone Pam on Friday 13/3/2015.
Vanuatu: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vanuatu
Cyclone Pam: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclone_Pam
Over the years, we have been working closely with Ni-Vanuatu and other Pacific seasonal workers under the Australian Government Seasonal Worker Program (more info here: http://seasonalworkers.com.au & https://www.facebook.com/seasonalworkers ). The seasonal worker program is a labour mobility program whereby Pacific workers are sourced to work in the Australian Horticultural industry in order to fill any labour shortage which can not be met by the local labour market. The money these workers have earned to date have enabled them to build much needed infrastructures and fed/educated their families/children.
Tropical Cyclone Pam has completely wiped out what these workers have built/worked for over the last 3-4 years.
Our aim here is to raise as much funds as we possibly can and to donate this directly to the Australian Red Cross who is currently assisting with the rebuilding process ( http://www.redcross.org.au/cyclone-pam-vanuatu-2015-appeal.aspx )
It has been reported that up to 70% of the current population (i.e. approx 190,000 people) is affected by this disaster. It will take Vanuatu years to come to rebuild and recover. Currently however, food, basic hygiene & sanitation are urgently required and are crucial to the survival of those who have been displaced. Working with the East Gippsland Shire community and volunteers, Seasonal Workers Australia has set up a Vanuatu East Gippsland Aid (VEGAid) entity in order to receive any donations from the general community.
We ask that you please give generously to this cause.
ALL funds raised will go directly to Vanuatu (less GoFundMe.com fees and bank charges). Snapshots of total funds received/sent and acknowledgements from the Australian Red Cross will be posted on our website and Facebook page as proof of delivery).
Please share and pass this on to those who are able to assist. No amount is too small. Let us show the people of Vanuatu that Australia and the world care.
If you live locally in East Gippsland, Victoria Australia we have a fundraising concert coming up on 29th March 2015! Tickets are limited. Get yours here: www.vegaid.org
