Outside the Wire Coffeehouse

Hello, my name is Juan Vega and I am currently a SGT in the Army Reserves. I served on active duty for 15 years as a Light Wheel Mechanic and am currently a CBRN NCO or Chemical Specialist. I moved to San Antonio after being sationed here for 5 years. I am originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan and have a BS in Business Management. I currently work as a Case Manager and am working towards my Master's in Education.


My goal is to provide a place where veterans can gather, grab a cup of Joe, and network among battle buddies 
in a coffeehouse atmosphere. The coffeehouse will also include used books and a boutique in which used clothing will be sold at a reasonable price.  I hope to have  activities throughout the week such as Open Mike Night. Veterans can share their experiences through song, poetry, or other forms of expression.


Long term plans are to invite local veteran service organizations to stop by and provide additional services such as resume advising, job search, and interview preparation. Other areas that will be addressed will be legal aid in which the local law school may be able to provide legal advice to veterans. I hope to include the VA and the Texas Veteran Commission in the process by inviting their representatives to come down and assist veterans with their claims over a cup of coffee. Proceeds will be used to obtain equipment and operations cost needed to open and run the coffeehouse for the first three months. I hope to obtain corporate sponsorship to enable the coffeehouse to continue to operate alongside revenues.

We hope to be up and running by summer 2017. As a veteran and current Army Reserve member, networking among other veterans will continue to instill a sense of camaraderie we all long for.  We are also seeking donations in the form of military memorabilia to include posters of all branches. I hope you will join me in this endeavor. Let’s continue to serve our veterans as they served us.
