Timmy's Safe At Home Campaign

Timmy was born full term completely healthy. At 10 weeks of age he contracted chicken pox . At 11 weeks complications  caused encephalitis and meningitis resulting in 2 massive strokes. One on either side of his brain.The prognosis was grim. They told us to put him in a home. They told us he would never walk or talk or eat on his own, that he would be a vegetable.My response was that he is in a home, OUR home, and that is where he will stay until I can no longer do it or someone else can do it far better.
It's been said that it costs $300,000.00 to raise a child from birth to 18, but , when it comes to raising a special needs child to adulthood,  that amount is a drop in the bucket.
They were so wrong. No, he can't walk or talk. But, he is far from a vegetable. Timmy is a very social guy. He loves baseball , football, hockey , pretty girls, dogs, music, etc  Our goal is simple. We want to keep him safe and healthy at home while at the same time giving him every life experience he can possibly have. He likes to get out and see people and experience things. In order to do this, we know we need help. A new van with a lift, so that he can ride in his chair , is quickly becoming a necessity as he is getting older and larger. Our home is mostly adapted but we still have more to do. We still have to pay for things like summer camp even though he is now 18. When school is out I can't work because there is no one to care for him.
