Volunteer trip and goods for Haiti
Donation protected
Haiti has been devastated by hurricanes over the last few years so it was easy for me to accept the invitation when asked to perform music and service works for the people of Port au Prince. Led by saxophonist Godwin Louis , a team of musicians including myself and the great pianist Aaron Goldberg, filmmakers, journalists, and educators from New York are traveling to Haiti between christmas and new years to bring food, supplies, relief, and awareness for these people who have been trying to get their lives back together since hurricane Matthew.
We are partnering with the Haiti Jazz Foudnation, College Louis Joseph Janvier, and L'eglise Du Dieu Vivant (Godwin's familie's chruch), however we still need to raise money to cover some of the travel costs and to purchse more supplies including food, first aid, school supplies, and music equipment. Literally EVERY DOLLAR HELPS!
As fundraising ambassador for this group all donations will be withdrawn by me and spent directly in the community. No money will go to organization or administration. We will be purchasing and delivering food, purchasing school supplies, purchasing music equipment (reeds, strings, manuscript paper), and first aid equipment.
As this holiday season approaches please think about those who have lost everything. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world and has very little infrastructure. Many of the organizations involved in relief missapropriate their donations. We are going in on the ground to collaborate with locals to bring aid to individuals and families most in need.
Godwin is planning more events and fundraisers for the next year in New York and we hope that with the success of this trip it will inspire many more people to donate to this cause. Please help by donating here or by helping to share the message. As the Haitian saying goes "men anpil chay palou" meaning with many hands the burden is light.
