RF Wireless Colloquia for Girls
I am employed seasonally as the RF Frequency Coordinator for a billion dollar sports industry. It is a specialized RF Broadcast Engineering position. I am the first and only Black Woman to do this type of work since the the RF Frequency Program was launched over 20 years ago. And, sadly, I am still the only one; there are only a total of 3 Women out of approximately 70 Men in my position. As a result, I have a curriculum under the auspices of STEM that is an introduction to non-traditional careers in Broadcasting Engineering which I would like to implement as summer colloquiums for girls, in an attempt to address the disproportionate number of Women in the Broadcast Engineering field. It is important for girls to know that "we are not just cheerleaders anymore." There are Women running sports events behind the scenes in Broadcasting as Engineers, Camera Operators, Photographers and Producers although the numbers are relatively small. My long range goal is for the program to be offered all year round, and not just once a year for a dozen girls at the end of the school year.
