Wesley's Warming Center

Tax deductible
What do you do when one of our neighbors dies outside in the bitter cold?  This question has disturbed the membership of Wesley UMC over the past year as we continue to grieve that one of our neighbors did die in the cold.  We have warm buildings standing and available for anyone to come in and warm up, and yet we did not open them.  This winter, and winters in the future will be different.

Beginning Jan 1, 2015, the Wesley Center will be open from 11pm-7am every night that the temperature or wind chill drops to 25 degrees or below.   We hope to be a place of hospitallity to anyone that needs to come in and get warm.  This will be the only warming center available to the people in the East side of Erie County, as currently all warming centers and shelters are located in the City Center.

We are starting this campaign to raise money for the start up and maintenance costs associated with the running of the center.  This can include, but is not limited to:
Supplies: Food, blankets, furniture, cleaning supplies, paper products and laundry needs, etc.
Renovations: Our goal is to renovate parts of our Wesley Center to include showers and other needs, like storage lockers
Clearances and Training: We want our neighbors to be safe and have their needs met when they enter our doors.  All overnight volunteers will be required to have PA Childline and PA State Police clearances as well as participate in our own Safe Sanctuaries training events.
