Let's Put Plenty of Fish in the Sea
The White Seabass Pen in Newport Beach, CA is in need of upgrades and ongoing maintenance. This volunteer-run project has helped enhance the white seabass population as part of the Ocean Resources Enhancement and Hatchery Program. In place since 1983, the white seabass program has put more than 2 million fish back in the water, helping replenish a species that saw severe declines in the 1980s. While our local Newport Beach pen is primarily run by volunteers, funding is needed to for upgrades and upkeep. 100% of the funds raised by this campaign will go directly to the materials to rebuild and upkeep.
We are thankful to the local volunteers who help support the project by visiting the pens daily to hand-feed the fish, log data, refill feeders, clean, count, weigh, and monitor the fish. The pens are also supported by local volunteers who vacuum the pens, scrape the gates, and even get their scuba gear on to clean and prep the pens. Without this support, this project would not be possible.
We have asked our volunteers to give their time, but we do not want them to continue to tap into their own financial resources to pay for small repair items here and there. Over time, these add up.
We are calling on anglers, ocean lovers, citizen scientists, and others who benefit from or appeciate the work of our team to support this project by making a donation.
100% of funds will go to Pacific Fisheries Enhancement Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit. This agency will ensure that 100% of the donations are dedicated to the maintenance of the pens.
NONE of the funds will be used for "administrative costs", etc., as all such activity is contributed by volunteers.
