TEEN WAS HUNTING LOST PHONE WHEN SHOT DEAD

This fund will be in memory of the heroic Jeremy Cook, a beloved son, brother, cousin, grandson and friend to so many.

On June 14, 2015, Jeremy was doing what so many people would have done.  He used an APP on his sisters phone to track his own lost/stolen phone with the assumption that the people who found his phone would be honorable and decent and return it to him.  Instead, on that fateful morning, Jeremy lost so much more than his phone, he lost his life.

At this time, all the details are not available but we are confident that the police will find and arrest the individuals responsible.  This event has permanently altered and scarred the Cook family in ways that most of us will not understand.  How do you move forward when such a tragedy occurs?  Losing a child in such a tragic way is such a horrific event no family should ever have to deal with. It’s a loss that permeates the hearts of everyone. How do you find a new “normal”?   These are questions that may not ever be answered.

Jeremy has left such a mark on the community.  This stems from him being such a member of the community with his long sports history.  There is not a hockey arena in the area that Jeremy has not skated at and probably scored a goal in.  His love for hockey ran very deep.  It is for this reason that sharing his story with social media and this “GO FUND ME” site seemed a natural step & a great way to help the family.

Jeremy Cook at 18 had such plans for life, he was so motivated and determined, and the world was at his finger tips. At 17, Jeremy took it upon himself to apply for a government grant & opened a company, “Cottage Chairs” and was working towards becoming a skilled carpenter.    Along with working a 40 hr week, Jeremy spent countless hours in his garage, fabricating Muskoka chairs in pursuit of his passion and goal to be successful in life’s endeavours.  Jeremy embodied drive, ambition, strength, determination and compassion, all characteristics that every person should strive for and every parent wishes for their child.

He touched so many people in his short life with his kindness and helpfulness.  In high school Jeremy was not only an honour student but we are told he was one of the popular kids in high school.  A role that many would say made it so that he would hang out only with the other popular kids, but not Jeremy.  He saw the good and bad in everyone and embraced it.  Like his family, he just loved people, didn’t matter what your status or your background, he just wanted to be everyone’s friend.  He always found time for everyone and was always so humble and grounded.  He was truly a “golden boy” in so many regards.

Any funds raised will be used, not just for today and immediate expenses but for the family to have the opportunity to stay at home from work and grieve, whether that is “5 days for the loss of a child” or 5 years.  As we all know loss can be paralysising but life with its bills, demands, mortgage payments and debts doesn’t stop.

This fund has been created by the close family and friends of the Cook family in honour of the young, beautiful soul taken way too early.  To help ease the fact that they must now bury their child!
