Please help with my next steps…
Project: I’ve written a children’s book series, Scout About. Duncan and Amelia Scout travel the world learning geography, exploring the outdoors and having fun adventures with friends and animals that are different than themselves.
I illustrated and self-published the first one, “Scout About – Alaska” (search Lee Jarboe on Amazon books). I’ve written four additional books and am working on more.
Ask: Help fund the illustration and printing of additional books in the series. I am participating in the Decatur Book Festival this fall and want to have multiple books available. Any extra funds raised will go to additional book illustrations, cartoon animation, website and learning app/game.
Background and Inspiration: My husband and I both travel for work and the hardest thing to do as parents is leave your children so we tried to make it fun. We put a map in our children’s playroom to show where we were traveling. Since our daughter was 2 years old she could point out where we live and where mommy or daddy go on their work trip.
We’re also a bi-coastal family with relatives in Texas, Ohio and Washington just to name a few. Gone are the days of your whole family living within a five mile radius so learning geography is important – why can’t we drive to grandma and grandpa’s right now?!?
Although we live in “cookie-cutter” suburbia our cul-de-sac is anything but cookie-cutter. Our neighbors are an international cross-section of wonderful people; I believe that diversity is the norm. The Scout family represents diversity and learning about geography lays the foundation for appreciating differences – people, food, culture, weather, etc.
Finally, we love the outdoors! “Scout About” inspires kids to learn and visit the featured locations by showing outdoor adventures with real world photos. It encourages kids to get outside to have amazing real life experiences; beyond just watching it on screen. A lifetime of learning and experiences starts early :)
