IVF for Breast Cancer Patient

Donation protected

Hi,
My name is Rachael and I would like to have a baby like the one I'm holding in the picture (my beautiful nephew), but the chances of that happening for me are getting slimmer and slimmer.  I'm not infertile- I was diagnosed with breast cancer this past September.  I never knew this before, and I'm sure many of your reading this don't know it, but treatments for cancer impact fertility in a big (negative) way.  I've never had kids, but kids are part of my future plans and for me, the time to have children is running out.  I want to have my first child before I am 40.

Chemotherapy attacks and kills cells that are rapidly dividing, which is why it attacks hair follicles and causes mouth sores.  Other cells under attack are in the ovaries and testicles.  Depending on where a person gets radiation therapy, that can also affect fertility.  In my case, though radiation won't be an issue where fertility is concerned, it will very likely affect my ability to breastfeed from the affected breast.

Hormone therapy also negatively affects fertility.  I will have to take an anti-estrogen drug called Tamoxifen for 5 years because my cancer has hormone receptors, meaning my hormones feed my cancer.  This drug will put me into temporary and possibly early (permanent) menopause.  I may never be able to have my own child naturally.

In an attempt to better my chances of conceiving on my own, I am having fertility treatment before any other cancer treatments are given.  Medication, for the first round, thanks to foundations such as Livestrong and FertileHope and to the company Walgreens, is free to cancer patients.  I have insurance to cover doctors visits and blood tests, but it won't pay for freezing and storing my eggs.  In fact, my insurance, even though I am a cancer patient, will not cover any IVF procedures.  So, I am asking for your help. I will need $4,400.00 by November 15th to harvest the eggs.  I have to have two rounds though, which means an additional $4,400. The cost of transferring embryos is about $5,000, so that's about $15,000, total.  I'm only asking for $10,000.

I don't think I need to explain why this means so much to me.  It's natural to want to have your own family.  If I could I would, but I can not do this without you!  I can't promise to name any future children after anyone, but it would mean the world to me and my current family if I could add onto it with your help.  Thank you!
