A Survivor's Guide to Leukemia
Donation protected
I am a leukemia survivor. In December 2010 I was diagnosed with AML and went through months of aggressive chemotherapy, long hospitalizations, and a bone marrow transplant, and I lived to tell the tale.
While I was in the hospital I kept a detailed journal to share with friends and family the daily struggles and successes, the milestones and the madness of being cooped up for months on end and too weak and sick to get out of bed and do much.
Since that time many people have told me I should turn it into a book or memoir, but that seemed a little too self-serving. Then I began hearing from many people that wish they knew day-to-day what to expect--both as a patient and as family members or friends worried about the person they love in treatment.
So I want to turn my journal into a book and an e-book for two main purposes: to give patients and families in the early days of diagnosis an idea of what is ahead, but also to give them a sense of hope, knowing that this is the story of someone who survived the same journey they are facing now.
Funds raised with this campaign will go toward the cost of production and publication of the book (editing, formatting, layout, artwork, etc.) and to marketing and distribution (channeling, positioning, advertising, etc.). If the campaign raises more than the goal or more than is required to fund the project, the excess will go to foundations providing treatment to patients and doing further research on preventing and curing blood and bone marrow cancers so there can be more survivors to tell their stories.
Thank you for your time reading about the campaign, and I hope you will choose to donate today.
