Help out Joao Alves!

Donation protected
This is John Fitzgerald, owner of New Age Computer Service.  I've set up this GoFundMe on behalf of Joe Alves, and here is his story (copied and edited from Tommy Shea's Facebook):

Last Friday when dropping off my cans for the boy scouts I was told that Mr. Alves no longer worked there and my cans weren't put aside but thrown into the compacter. This infuriated me, so I started making calls - first to Joao and then to Covanta and then to the mayor, Mr. Sullivan , and to the Patriot Ledger and Boy Scouts and many others. Joao has worked as a contractor with a lower company for Covanta , 2 weeks before he was fired he was asked to train a new guy, and unknown to Joao the new guy was his replacement. At the end Covanta informed Joao that because he didn't have a high school diploma or equivalent he wouldn't continue to be employed by Covanta. He wasn't offered to get his GED and stay on, he was just fired. No warning , no severance pay, nothing.

Joao has filed for unemployment but was told it would take six weeks. His rent, car insurance, and light bill are due on the first. Bills don't end when you lose your job. His cupboards are starting to thin, but he continues to be hopeful that this thing will turn around. We gave an interview to the Patriot Ledger, we went to mayor Sullivan's office, we called Covanta in New Jersey , we talked to several people in town council; Mr. Clifford, Mr. Powers and Mayor Sullivan talked to Joao early in the morning. Promises to make calls to Covanta, to hold meetings, investigations and demand answers and hopefully action will be response to the inquiries by our esteemed elected officials .

We are 575 signatures short of our goal. So, I want to personally thank John Fitzgerald of New Age Computer Service of Braintree (68 Hancock St), he is allowing the petition to be posted to any and all people willing to sign it at his business, Mon- Fri 8:30am to 5 pm. Sat 10-2. Please spread the word, stop in and sign that petition . And please tell your friends and neighbors.

We want the message to be clear. We are shooting for 1 thousand signitures but we are Braintree Strong and I know that your not gonna let Joao and his family down. Next Saturday we will be back at Town Hall , let's make this a day that Joao won't soon forget, bring your kids to the park, bring some coffee and a slice of pie. Let's make this town be its old self - Rich in history, glorious in spirit, we are not just strong, we are Braintree Strong.

This money is being raised to help Joao pay his bills in the interim, until we can finish talks with our elected officials and get Joao sorted out with Covanta.
