Mercy's Emergency Cancer Surgery
Donation protected
Two nights ago, our dog 11 year old Mercy collapsed in a neighbors yard and was rushed to the ER. Her gums were pale which is an indication of internal bleeding. They found a large tumor in her liver. The ER Dr said that due to the location of the softball size tumor on her liver it was most likely they would not get it all and one option we should consider is euthanasia. It blind-sided us. She was acting fine earlier. To do the surgery would cost anywhere from $5-$8000. I am out of work with no money. No guarantee she would survive the surgery. Without the surgery she would last 3 days. I couldn't make that decision so immediate. I decided to wait til morning and speak to the surgeon. He agreed with the ER Dr and said that due to the location and size of the tumor, there was a strong possibility that she would die on the table. I looked at Mercy who was there in the room laying with me while we spoke. She was pretty much out of it but she looked at me and wagged her tail weakly. I felt that she was saying to me, let's try. We did our sorrowful good-byes to her and spent time with her very well knowing we most likely would never see her again. Excruciating and heart breaking. Two hours of surgery, the surgeon came out. I was expecting to hear the worst. With a huge smile and a thumbs up he told me that they got the whole tumor. Mercy survived due to the stubborn girl that she is. We were given a huge heavenly gift. We don't know how much longer she will be with us. We are not deceiving ourselves thinking she will last forever. But we are even more aware of her gifted presence and every day will be a cherished one. She is recovering beautifully and the Dr feels she will be with us for at least another year or more. There will need to be more doctor visits, blood tests and at least one scan. I do not have the money. I will do what I need to do to help save her life. I do not like asking for charity, but any help to pay Mercy's bill would be so very much appreciated.
