Build a school in Guatemala / Trip

Donation protected
Hello family and friends!  I am trying to raise money to go as a volunteer to Guatemala and help build a bottle school.  My goal is to raise a minimum of $2150.  $1195 will go towards covering my expenses … such as room, board, transportation, guides, admission costs, supplies on the trip, potable water, etc.  the rest is to cover my airfare to and from Guatemala; and $250 to support the charity partners.

I want to make a difference and what better way than to volunteer a week of my life to go and help build a school.  I can’t change the world over night, but the little that I am able to do is better than doing nothing.  Any little help, any little effort, anything positive that you can do can help make a difference.  I would love to be able to touch life’s and make a difference, especially in children, they are the future of the world. Trip will be in late 2015

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms.”

I am a single mother of two, I may not have the money to make a difference, but I do have God’s gift to want to help others. I will make time and donate a week to help build a school. Time is something I can’t get back, time is not something you can buy with money, however, I am willing to give my time to help others.

This is a volunteer trip that will gives me the opportunity to travel and work  with kids and adults in the community to help build a bottle school.  It’s not a typical vacation: it’s all about participating and connecting, serving and giving.

Bottle schools are schools built out of plastic soda bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. Thousands of bottles are collected and stuffed full of inorganic trash such as plastic bags, chip packets and polystyrene to make “eco-bricks”.

Re-using plastic “waste” to build the schools achieves some very important goals: building a school cheaply and efficiently; cleaning the community of trash; and educating youth about recycling and the environmental impact of our non-biodegradable waste – in the community, in the entire region that the school is being built in, and also in the “developed” countries such as the USA where bottle schools have had a lot of publicity and media attention.
