Kyou's Kidney Medical Hospital Stay

Donation protected

Hello, my name is Heather.  And I love cats! I'll try to spare you the catchy e-harmony video song. In particular however, I love my two orange tabby cats, Kyou, and Ruari. Both are five year old boys, and they're an important part of my family.

Right now though, Kyou's life is on the line.

November 4th he sustained a tail injury and was rushed to the vet. While upset, I was told he would heal right up and that because it was merely the tip it was a simple procedure.  I was able to bring him home the same day, and sent off with the pain medication, metacam. It's a common medication for dealing with pain, and generally fine in cats, but can be known to cause IT upset.

The first couple days he acted like his normal self despite his tail injury, and I brought him back for a check up to make sure that he was doing well like an overly worried parent. However come that Saturday evening I noticed that he had become more tired, wasn't eating or drinking much.

By Monday he was vomiting, which I attributed to an upset stomach due to the medicine. I carefully monitored it, only to watch his condition worsen. By Tuesday he hadn't had a bowel movement since late Saturday and I was concerned, so I rushed him to the emergency vet hospital.

After a number of tests they came back with the devastating news that it was his kidneys. They were overly large and irritated, which they said was probably partially agitated due to the medicine. But they told me they had never seen this sort of thing in a cat still so young, and were unable to tell if this was a chronic or acute problem. Immediately I had him hospitalized, he's been put on an IV, fluids, and has been fed liquid food while given anti-nausea medication.

It's not enough though. He needs four to five days worth of hospitalization to be given a fighting chance. But it's money out of pocket that I don't have, and desperately need in order to bring my loving kitty back.

With his initial tail injury and admittance to the hospital, and after tests, x-rays, his IV, medicine, enema, and other treatments has brought me up to about 1, 500 dollars. His second night now is almost 350, and doesn't include other procedures that might need taken the next day, or his additional days. He may need up to five days in order to recover and be given a chance to live. We need the money immediately in order to get him the treatment and time he so desperately needs.

Please help me save my precious family member! All of the money would be dedicated to his stay and treatment. Should he pull through before then, any money or extra funds will be donated to the Bright Eyes & Bushy Tails Veterinary Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

This would mean everything to me. Kyou is my first pet since setting out on my own, and is a loving and cherished companion, with so much personality and spunk. His brother adores him, and I can't imagine them separated, especially to this. As I visited with him tonight, I saw that spark of life in his eyes, and just know that he's fighting with everything he's got. Please help me bring him back home and to overcome this ordeal.

I will be eternally thankful to any and all who can help donate their time, well wishes and prayers. Thank you so much.
