My names Richard Chiassaro and I am a T54 wheelchair racer for Great Britain.
I am currently ranked 1st in uk over 100m 200m 400m 800m and I represented GB in RIO 2016.
A couple of years ago I Started my racing squad and have athletes of all ages ranging from 7yrs up to 50yrs old.
4 of the athletes are ranked in the top 4 in the UK in their classification and they are continually improving with PBs at most competitons this year.
Wheel chair racing is an extremely expensive sport with the chairs ranging from £3000-£6000 with wheels and gloves.
We have around 13 chairs for everyone to use but we are finding it really hard to maintain the equpiment with general wear and tear.
For example push rims need recoating and gloves wear fairly quick and both are around £130 a I PAIR.
Tires also wear and if the squad gets a puncture the that could cost £25-£60.
We have done what we can and the chairs have been in use now for 5 years so they could really could do with a tune up.
YOUR ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR EQUIPMENT and for some of the athletes competing in bad equpiment means bad times and that wont do.
i want to provide my squad with the opportunites to compete at there best and one day represent there country like i have done in rio.
Thank you
