The Evergreen Yonge Street Mission is a Toronto drop-in centre for street-involved youth, aged 16-24, many of who are experiencing homelessness or living in shelters.
The YSM healthcentre offers a variety of free no-questions-asked services provided by professional volunteers including dentistry, specialists in child and adolescent medicine and residents from Sick Kids Hospital, nurse practitioners, psychotherapists and psychiatrists, psychotherapists, mindfulness practitioners, chiropractors, acupuncturists and naturopathic doctors, and so on.
Naturopathic medical care is headed by myself and another practitioner, also a teacher and supervisor at the naturopathic college. We offer counseling, dietary support, acupuncture, vitamin injections and natural remedies such as homeopathic medicine, herbals remedies and nutritional supplementation.
Common health conditions we see are musculoskeletal issues, PTSD, mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder, drug addictions, fatigue and digestive issues.
While naturopathic remedies are not very expensive, many of our patients at the clinic lack the resources to buy evidence-based medicines to help treat their health conditions. Therefore, we try to provide as many in-house treatments, like acupuncture, as possible. However, it is important for us to offer patients some options from a dispensary, which require funds to keep stocked. In the past we have provided probiotics, vitamins and minerals such as vitamin D, iron and magnesium, herbal remedies to support mood and the immune system, creams to provide relief from pain, etc.
We are raising funds to continue to stock this small dispensary so that we can keep providing excellent, free and compassionate care to our vulnerable population of patients.
We appreciate all your donations.
