Get Birkbeck iGEM to Giant Jamboree

Donation protected
This is the first year a Birkbeck (University of London) team is participating in the iGEM competition. Established in 1823 by George Birkbeck, the College has been the staple of evening higher learning in London, providing busy working people from non-traditional backgrounds with an internationally recognised education. iGEM is an international synthetic biology competition for genetic engineering that takes place annually. Every year teams of undergraduates and postgraduates from over 250 universities across the world compete to design and build genetically modified organisms to create novel solutions to global problems.
"The Birkbeck team aims to engineer diagnostic tools based on bacteriophages (viruses specific to bacteria) with a view to develop cheap and easy-to-use infection diagnosis kits that could be employed at the point-of-care in deprived communities. The team is going to achieve this by engineering a modular bacteriophage, which could be made to target a wide variety of pathogens. More information about our team and the project can be found via the following link: http://2015.igem.org/Team:Birkbeck
The competition culminates in the Giant Jamboree, an annual event held at Hynes Convention Centre in Boston, MA, where all iGEM teams come together to present their synthetic biology projects. We believe our
project could have a positive impact for many communities and are thus raising money to be able to attend the event in order to present our work to a wider audience.
Our team must pay the following: Giant Jamboree iGEM Registration Fee (£450 each / £500 after July 31st), flights to Boston (£600 each), and accommodation (estimated at £200 per person / houseshare via Airbnb x6 nights). Please support our team for the advancement of this amazing scientific project.
