Potatoes for Refugee Camps
Donation protected
Appalachian Relief Mission (ARM) in cooperation with Roma Missions International is working to bring much-needed food to Bulgarian refugee camps.
As persecution increases in the Middle East and Africa, thousands of refugees are fleeing ISIS and ending up in Bulgaria. Meanwhile, Bulgarian Roma (gypsy) farmers have harvested a crop of potatoes only to find that there's no market for them. The solution is obvious--for a mere $300 per ton, this food can be sent to refugee camps to feed those in need, while at the same time supporting the Roma farmers.
The potatoes will go to Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, where another missionary group distributes food to refugees within the town and to the main camp a few miles away. This group has need of 22 tons of potatoes, and RMI is actively seeking other camps also in need.
ARM is a not-for-profit group dedicated to meeting the needs of the Appalachian region and supporting missionaries abroad who come from our region. Roma Missions International is one such organization, founded by Maryland missionaries called to serve the gypsy (Roma) people in Bulgaria. Over the past 20 years they have brought the gospel to a people too long denied it while under communist rule, and now they're working to turn these people, once a mission field, into missionaries, poised as they are to reach out to the refugees flooding their region.
By donating to ARM & RMI, you're directly helping two mission fields at once, and enabling the Roma people to make these first steps in reaching out.
