Help my best friend and sister in law come to my wedding!!
Jessica Tsuzuki and I have been friends for over a decade. Our friendship has survived college drama, boyfriends, first jobs, and for the last seven years, distance. Since 2008 she has been living in Japan (I live outside Dallas, TX). We hang out on Skype the way we used to hang out during our college days, and our friendship has flourished in spite of a 15 hour time difference. We do pretty much everything normal best friends do, including talking through life’s many challenges, watching movies and even shoe shopping online.
In 2011, I served as Jess' maid of honor and met her brother Bill, serving as her husband Tomo's best man. As he escorted me down the aisle of Jess and Tomo’s wedding, I felt the spark of attraction for Bill, but I was going through a bad divorce and he was about to be stationed for three years in South Korea with the US Army. We became friends on Facebook and called it a day, or so I thought.
As I started dating again, I would tell Jess on Skype all about guys I met, guys I wanted to date and random weirdos I never wanted to see again. Inevitably, she would oh-so-casually drop her brother’s name into the conversation. It got to where every time I whined about guys, she would counter by telling me Bill was everything I said I wanted. Mind you, he was still in Korea, so this just frustrated me!
Fast forward to April of 2013. Bill private messaged me on Facebook out of the blue. Since he was on leave, staying with his sister, I was thoroughly convinced that Jess was plotting to set us up. Well, it worked! Bill and I started talking on Facebook and we never stopped. Daily Facebook messaging turned into weekly Skype dates where we would watch movies together on Netflix and talk for hours. In December 2014, Bill (now stationed in Hawaii) got leave again to come to Texas and spend Christmas with me in person. It was magical! The chemistry we felt online was there in real life. We started to get serious about spending our lives together. He came back to Texas again this summer and proposed! I said yes! We set the date for December 12, 2015.
This is where you all come in. More than anything in the world, I want my best friend (and soon to be sister-in-law) to be at our wedding. Plane tickets from Japan to Texas are expensive, and Jess and Tomo are now a single income household as Jess is primarily a stay at home mom for their two year old daughter Julia. Bill and I are saving all our money to move me to Hawaii after the wedding, so our wedding is going to be very simple and sweet (think civil ceremony and backyard bbq).
We don’t want a lavish wedding; all we want is our family to be there. Please help us!
As of July 2015, Expedia has flights from Sendai, JP to Dallas TX 12/7/15 – 12/14/15 at $893 per person ($2679 total for two adults and one child). However, flight prices change especially so close to the holidays. We’re setting our goal at $6000 and aiming to purchase the tickets by October 1st.
Any money that is not used for Jess and Tomo’s travel expenses will then be donated to Bill and Courtney’s Excellent Adventure fund.
Thank you so much!!
