One of the best feelings in the world is coming home after a long day at school and laying on my nice warm bed. Although you and your family might have this option, many students don’t. My name is Lilia and I am an 8th grade student in San Diego, California. One evening my dad came home from work as a speech and language pathologist in the schools, and as usual I asked him how his day was. He told me that he had a student who came into his classroom with bites all over his arms because his circumstances require him to sleep on the floor. At that moment my heart broke and I had an idea. I came up with ZZZs 4 Kidz.
ZZZs 4 Kidz is an association that provides bed sets (including sheets, a mattress, frame and pillow) for kids in need. My mission is to raise enough money so that all students in San Diego can have a warm bed to sleep in. My vision for the future is to see kids achieve their personal and academic goals. Providing a child with a warm bed to sleep in ensures that there is at least one less obstacle for him or her to overcome.
About 21% of children live in families that bring in income below the federal poverty threshold. A family’s priority is to make sure they can pay for their food and rent. For these families a bed in many cases is considered a want, not a need.
Join me in supporting this effort to give children the opportunity to have their own bed to sleep in. My ultimate goal is to raise enough money to buy beds for 1,000 kids. The $8,000 I am trying to raise before Christmas will be enough to buy a bed set for 20 kids. Your help is greatly appreciated and I will be very grateful for your support.
